How the numbers are worked out
At the Post Office counter you pay USPS postage for the weight of the envelope plus the fee for each extra service: $0.82 for a one-ounce First-Class letter with a stamp, $5.55 for Certified Mail, and $2.91 for the Electronic Return Receipt or $4.65 for the paper green card. Those are the only fees USPS charges, and they are the same whoever brings the letter in. Printing, the envelope and the trip are on you. Source: USPS Notice 123, Price List.
Sent online with Piloxa the price includes all of that: the letter is printed, folded into an envelope, posted with the Certified Mail fee and handed to USPS. It grows with the number of printed pages because each sheet is printed and weighed, and an envelope of four or more pages usually passes one ounce. The calculator reads the same price list the checkout uses, so the figure here is the figure on the review page.
What it does not include: Restricted Delivery, the paper green card, Registered Mail and Priority Mail, which Piloxa does not offer; buy those at a Post Office counter. Certified Mail cost in 2026 explains every USPS fee and when each one is worth paying.
Which service to pick
For most letters that may need proving later, the Electronic Return Receipt is worth its fee: it shows who signed and when. Certified Mail alone proves mailing and the delivery scan. The Evidence Pack adds a certificate that names the exact document by its SHA-256 fingerprint, for a letter you expect to argue about; why that matters. None of these proves what was in the envelope on USPS's side; what Certified Mail proves and does not.
Have your AI prepare it
If an assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude wrote the letter, it can hand it straight to Piloxa through the connector at https://piloxa.com/mcp (or the OpenAPI description). The assistant only prepares the letter and gives you a review link; you read the exact pages and the total and decide whether to pay. Nothing is printed, mailed or charged before that.
